Францішкане ў Беларусі
Паўстанне ў 1209 годзе Ордэну Меншых Братоў святога Францішка было сапраўды значнай падзеяй у Каталіцкім Касцёле. Ад самага пачатку пазначалася яно інтэнсіўным развіццём, паўсюль там, дзе людзі былі спрагнёныя “супакою і дабра”. Ужо ў XIII стагоддзі ордэн налічваў больш за 1500 кляштараў у 34 правінцыях, што ў сваю чаргу дзяліліся на кустодыі. Найбольш канвентаў паўставала на тэрыторыі Італіі, Францыі ды Германіі. Поўныя місійнага запалу, браты дабраліся ажно да Кітаю і татарскіх земляў. Асізскі Бедачына марыў несці Евангелле да ўсіх, а яго браты дапамагалі той мары здзяйсняцца.

Ордэн адзначаўся моцнай вітальнасцю ды крэатыўнасцю: ад паслугі санктуарыяў да прапаведніцтва, ад навуковых асяродкаў па місійную дзейнасць. Здаецца, не было такой сферы ў жыцці Касцёла, якую б браты не напоўнілі нанова евангельскім зместам у францішканскім стылі.
Францішканскія місіянеры трапілі таксама на тэрыторыю Літвы, якая апошняй з еўрапейскіх дзяржаваў прыняла хрысціянства. Пра іх місійную дзейнасць сведчаць нешматлікія крыніцы. У 1253 годзе хэлмінскі біскуп Гайндрых на загад папы Інакенція IV каранаваў Міндоўга. Ахрышчаны з жонкаю і двума сынамі той, аднак, праз 10 год вярнуўся да паганства. У позніх часах панавання Гедыміна (каля 1275-1341) францішкане ўжо мелі свае кляштары ў Вільні ды Наваградку.Сам князь, застаючыся язычнікам

Пры двары князя спаўнялі паслугу пісараў і дарадчыкаў, а таксама неслі сакрамэнтальную паслугу калоніі хрысціянскіх купцоў, рыхтуючы грунт да навяртання ўсёй Літвы. Сам хрост Літвы ў значнай меры быў плёнам місійнай працы францішканаў. Каралева Ядвіга мела прасіць генерала францішканскага Ордэну выслаць 2000 братоў для распаўсюду хрысціянскай веры і была гатовая ўзяць шлюб з Ягайлам пад умоваю, што ён прыме хрост і дазволіць Княству Літоўскаму прыняць хрысціянства.
